Apple on Monday released for download a significant update to its Leopard operating system for Mac computers.

OS X 10.5.6 includes at least three dozen fixes for issues ranging from print reliability to archiving problems. The update also offers “general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac,” according to Apple.

sony_vaio Writers will be fighting hard not to reference the Audi TT Roadster when writing about Sony’s latest ultraportable, but their efforts will be futile. Perhaps it’s because the company is calling it the TT series—a 2.9-pound ultraportable that measures less than one inch thin. It’s a new line, replacing the previous Sony VAIO VGN-TZ298N, and integrating the first Blu-ray reader (or writer) on an 11-inch ultraportable.

Although 11-inch widescreens have been on the market for a while now, they reflect the movement to the 16-by-9 form factor, as seen on the HP HDX 18, the Acer Aspire 6920G-6071, and the Sony VAIO VGN-FW198U. The TT Series’s 1,280-by-768 resolution is consistent with the TZ298N’s, and the screen is energy efficient and bright, thanks to the use of LEDs behind the display.

adobe-logo Adobe Dreamweaver has a couple of interesting new features in this update, highlighted by the addition of Live View. This new view allows designers to see what their layout will look like under real-world browser conditions.

Using Live View, designers still have access to the code while using WebKit to render CSS navigation, JavaScript, Flash and other technologies typically not available when previewing a Web site. Live View may seem like a duplicate of the Preview in Browser feature, but that’s not how Adobe sees it.

“It’s not so much of a replacement for Preview in Browser, it’s more of a workflow gain because you don’t have to leave Dreamweaver,” said Dreamweaver product manager Devin Fernandez.

In keeping with its theme of making designers more efficient Adobe introduced Code Navigator in Dreamweaver. The Code Navigator is a smart pop-up window that shows you links to all the CSS code sources that affect your current selection.
